In the last 6 years cooling methods, case design, and fans have changed in a lot of ways that experimentation is better than what may work for another person.

2007, were we still not seeing a lot of rounded and sometimes still traditional IDE cables at that time?

Pretty easy to tell that it isnt a correct reading......... the idle is the same temp.......... So it is either a false temp or his VRM's are not heating up at all under a load.

IMO Common sense right there.......

Air moves pretty much the same today as it did in 07. Obstacles notwithstanding.

Air moves the same yes. But the way air moves has changed. Fan blades, Pitch of blades, Radiators and etc all change how air flows.

With my CPU only loop, I can confirm that intaking cool air from the top and blowing across the rad into the case yields better temps than exhausting warm air through through the top. I've tried with both configs and NO, my RAM and VRM don't get hot either way.

Front fan (intake), rear fan (exhaust), top rad fans (intake):

That would make sense as your fans would be in a pull configuration if you were exhausting out the top. Not as good air flow.

SWEET RIG BTW!
