Yep, if I'm going from 6 Core 12 Thread 980x X58 platform anything other than X79 2011 Socket would be a step backwards ;) ........even Haswell !!!

No problem running pull only. And you can vacuum the dust out of the rad that way.

Done! I grabbed 2 NF F12's and put them in 'push' config pulling cold air from the top down in to the case. Pretty slick actually, as you almost can't see them from the inside at all. Unfortunately, they can be seen clearly from the top of the case through the meshing. But they are extremely silent and keeping things cool... so I can't complain much.

Surfing other sites the consensus appears to be arranging the fans in that config.

Like yourself I also have a vertical top Fan exhausting out the back, so the warm air isn't going to build up at all in the case.
Also, you provide air blowing onto the Mobo as well.

I find the humming from the pump in Performance mode a little annoying, but only use it when gaming, turn up the volume ;)

Is it just a consensus or it is a proven configuration? Generally speaking heat rises and thus it's better to exhaust air out the top. Also the rear "exhaust" fan could be turned to blow across the mobo with cooler air.

While I think it is unlikely that air could easily re-circulate through the case via the rear exhaust (left of the cpu) and back into the top of the case... if the computer was in a cabinet of some kind this could be possible.

heat rises... in my opinion it's better to exhaust heat out of the case rather than blow it in.
