One year since my custom water build.
What do you guys clean your rads with?
What about CPU, GPU and chipset blocks? They are all nickel plated with plexi tops.
What about acrylic reservoir?
Just looking for advice, not to damage anything, do somethings not need cleaning etc..
All I used was distilled water.
Just change the water, unless you can see buildup on the blocks. If it's a tube style reservoir, I disassemble and wipe the acrylic down.
Clean the rads with a vinegar and water 50-50 mix.
Clean the tube res with just water and a wipe, dont let it touch any vinegar.
I just fill my res up and have very last hose of the loop inside a bucket fire up the pump on high then just keep topping up the res mind you I don't do it that often becasue I look at my res to see if there is any floaties in there and I have only seen floaties once
I have quick disconnects for the dual 5.25 bay pump & res combo, so I can quickly clean that apart from the rest of the loop.
Here is a pic of the 680 block, sorry for size but might be hard to see but there is some cloudiness it seems on the plexi, and some discoloration on the nickel.
Anything to clear or lessen this?
Are you comfortable opening up the block? I am not aware of anyway to clean that block w/o risking damaging it. Not without opening it up and cleaning it by hand.
If it's once a year, I could open it, but it won't be easy to reassemble.
Since I have nickel plating, what do I use to clean it?
If it will come clean by opening it and cleaning it by hand, I will do it..
Well the plexi cleaned with soap and water, now to figure out what to use on the nickel plating.
Everything will be rinsed thoroughly with distilled water at the end.
Ketchup works well to clean copper and nickel. (citric acid)
Just remember to align the o-ring properly when fitting the top and finger tight all the screws then tighten in a star fashion. No need to over-tighten the screws either. You will feel the screw seat itself and the o-ring will compress to fill the void and it will be sealed fine.
