Running 3/8 x 5/8 on 1/2 barbs felt secure for me. I never ran into issues.

I don't think this would be much better than a block with a jetplate also a lot more risk of something leaking. You know what would make this even more bling? A clear block so you can see the CPU if you're using clear fluid.
