H100......this looks bad....... http://i1174.photobucket.com/albums/...TS41512310.jpg http://i1174.photobucket.com/albums/...TS41512299.jpg took my unit apart and found that the H100 wasnt' seated.....and followed the instructions tighten in x pattern...wtf else could go wrong with this thing...?/? |
Is there something on your motherboard that might be interfering with a proper seat? |
There's two capacitors there, sides of them are crushed. There's your problem. Ouch... |

Oh no! I was scared of this moving to liquid cooling, but haven't run into a problem yet, I would be flipping out when I seen those crunched caps on my mobo. |

OUCH!!! i just looked again at the mobo your right i didn't notice that on first inspection.... system was worinkg fine pre-teardown.....never had any issues...dumb rookie mistake. i will have to turn the H100 90* and see if it fits on reinstall. thx |
Had this happen with a lot of older S775 OEM "aftermarket" heatsinks. Only two sides would have been cut out high enough to clear capacitors and whatnot. If it was turned the wrong way, the capacitors would block the mounting. Killed a P4 once because of it, so glad it wasn't the E8400 rig right beside it, else I'd have been ******. |
what are my odds this mobo is F'd?? what could happen if i continue to use it with the crushed caps?? fire?? thx |
you could always grab a little copper plate to use as a middle man ( it works might effect cooling a little but at least your working ) and since you have no heatsinks on your vrm's i know you won't be overclocking so it won't matter that much just a suggestion edit: if it was working b4 then no reason it wouldn't be working since you removed the cooling plate you just bent the caps. Which isn't good but it's not a huge deal since it's done already there solid state caps so just giver and make the best of it :punk::thumb: |
if ur good at soldering you can replace caps rather easily, if not you could always RMA the board. |
