I'm pretty new to Water cooling too, But I'll share what I know about them (as I am getting some)

Basically If you plan to change your hardwares often or if you need to take out your motherboard tray(on some cases)
Quick disconnects will enable you to do the job without having to drain out the whole loop.

When you see all quick disconnects at a store, They're sold separately.
Meaning you will need to buy 1 Female, and 1 Male.
They all come with different sizes too, so you must find the ones that fit your tubings.

I personally buy an extra male to just put it on a tube, and use it when I want to drain the whole loop (plug it into the female from the lowest point of the whole loop)

Most guys put the disconnects near the rad so they can pull it out and blow the dust off. Not all disconnects are created equal so if you want decent ones with very little spill make sure you buy the ones with the lowest amount of leakage.

Like these ones here.

its like one of those lifting bridges.

when connected together, water flows.
when disconnected, water stops at that point.

^ That's pretty much it, pretty simple.

I have the Koolance QDC's. I use them the same way siegfx does except I buy an extra male and female to use it as a flushing port.
