dual pumps. another question i need answered plz.

I currently have an older version of this XSPC pump/res combo.

It does around 750LPH or 12.5 LPM or 3.3GPM. I think my flow rate might be a bit too low to cool my current config cpu/video on a triple rad. I was wanting to try a dual pump setup to see if it would help any but was wondering which pump I should mix with this one. This would increase flow and head pressure from what I understand but I wanted some input on the idea as I've never done this before.

Something of this flavor so it doesn't take up much room.

I was playing bf3 today watching my temps and it was getting close to max and i'm not overclocked. So obviously I'm a little concerned. I am planning to change out the cpu cooler at xmas for one of these. or a heatkiller

I tried putting together a mcp350 and a mcp355. When both were running, i could hear that the strongest of the two (mcp 355 if i remember correctly) was not making the same noise as when ran alone. So i supposed back then that the system was running at the speed of the slowest pump. And that the strong one would surely die one day if i let them like they were. I ended up putting together a dual loop watercooling system : 360 rad for the cpu only (little overkill, but i already had the rad), and 360 rad for the 3 gpus folding in my system. I'm planning to add a fourth gpu in the loop, so i ordered a 120 rad to add to the loop. No advantages at all from the dual pump loop, so i would advice not to do so.

OK I have another question then. What if the pumps weren't in series. Instead the 2 pumps going into a manifold then into a single loop? Has anyone tried this? I have a couple manifolds but only one pump. Would this increase the flow rate and presure? Seems to me it would but I don't know for sure.

This would be the recommended method of running multiple pumps in one loop and it does NOT have to be the same pump.

I was always under the impression multiple pumps in a single loop was just for redundancy more than performance. And yea, don't mix different pumps in one loop. You could always create multiple loops with different pumps.

Exactly. Martin's extensive testing proved that dissimilar pumps in a loop didn't matter, but did increase the flow. The neat advantage is the slower pump feeding the faster one.

It'd be best to use the two of the same pump but if you do use two different pumps the higher speed one might be putting on extra strain on the slower speed pump causing premature wear.
