The plan is to try and get maximum oc/ on air cooling, for the lowest price possible (system in sig).

The AC freezer 7 is regarded quite well, and had done great for me, my only complaint being its noisy at full speed and I would like to get rid of the "not-so-Smartfan" and run it 100% all the time.

So here are my choices:

Stay how it is (cheapest)

thermalright ultra 120 extreme + 1 or 2x yate loon's (already own YL's, ~$65)

TRUE + 1 or 2x Noctua u12P fans ( 65 + 40.68)

other CPU HS (???)

So from searching around I think the TRUE is only worth about 3*C over the freezer 7, the true (heh) value being the noise factor.

It is hard though due to the ability to find a review that includes all the items I am comparing is difficult, amd mixing reviews for comparison is wrong due to differing test conditions etc...

so my questions boil down to:

So, is the ultra 120 really going to make a difference in my max stable OC?

and

Are the Noctua fans worth Upgrading from the Yate loons (I know how they perform now, great review Silver SKYMTL!)

After reading the latest review (I started this post earlier, oops) I know the fans are pretty good, but I may stick with the YL's due to budgetary reasons, but still need the answer to the first question...

I can not and will not take credit for that great review that SKYMTL wrote! But yeah...you were right....great review eh? To answer one of your questions...

The TRUE option with the NF-P12's in push/pull would in my eyes be the best....check out numbers on that combo....

And then use the YL as case fans or sell em to make up for the cost!

Crap! Sorry Sky! I read both your reviews back to back, my bad!

Both are great and I am glad my mx2 purchase wasnt a bad one...

Arctic cooling sure can save you money without compromising!



So, back on topic, I know that the TRUE + Noctua is the best, but is it worth Spending almost 20% of my total system cost on a cooling solution (compared to the AC 7)?

Also, the YL's were only a buck each, not much of a dent in the $100 upgrade...

and I am full up on fans ATM

Geez, that just makes it worse, seems the Katana II is better AND quieter than the AC7 pro, and I have one of those too...

Argh...


I think I will bite the bullet on this and sell off some stuff to pay for it. Everytime I try to sell stuff I get lo-balled to death though.

In the review it doesn't show a huge difference between the YL and the Noctua's, its better sure, but 1-3 degrees tops.

Also I have a YL in the case already, so the cpu being quieter may not make a difference...

I went for the TRUE, but as I still don't know if it will get me a higher OC I decided to hold off on the Noctua's, The YL's should tell me if I can get past my 2.8ghz wall.

Also My exhaust fan and intake fan are rated at 28db so the 2 28db YL's wont be any louder (I will tackle getting it quiet later)

You'll get a lot more than a 3' difference in temps between the AF64 vs True simply for the fact you can run the True at a slower speed and get better temps where the AF64 you'll have to run higher which = louder to maintain any good temps.

yeah, the stupid smart fan only works properly if you have EasyTune running, and I would like to minimise background programs as much as I can. Otherwise it runs it at like 80% all the time, and only ramps up when you get to like 50-60C IN EASYTUNE, which is 20*C lower than coretemp, so BOO.

But the AC7pro is louuud at full speed. 2x Yate's at 100% wont be as loud as that, and I may be able to get away with running them at 60-80%...

I hate comparing reviews though, one shows the TRUE only beating the AC7 by 3*C, but others, that dont have the AC7, show the TRUE beating most by 10+*C...

You are on a forum where all of us have experimented to some degree and know how hardware works and if we tell you the True/Tuniq will out perform and outshine the ACF then why bother any more? Just buy it.

A lot of review sites are biased and it takes personal opinion and use to truly give a indication of how well a product works and thats why there are experience people on here to give those recommendations and advice to people.

So we are all telling you to buy the true and forget the AC
