Default Pump orientation question

Can I mount my pump upside down? So a horizontal 180 degrees.

Seems to be a lot of controversy attached to this.

From what I understand, as long as it is primed correctly during bleeding and has access to water, once the main air bubbles are gone (so like running the rig on it's side during bleeding) it is fine.

Ideas/comments on this?

Thanks!

I've got my 655 rotated 90 degrees in my build, so that the intake is on top and outlet is on the side. Theoretically, as long as the pump is primed there shouldn't be an issue. However, pumps and impellers are built with factory orientation in mind. You may run into an issue with impeller slop or the like. Just be aware of the possibility.

Which pump are you using? There may be a top with inlets/outlets in the orientation you need.

aslong as the inlet/s have a source of water to draw from i have never had a problem with any orientation

It's the 355.

The issue is not inlet or outlet orientation, it's to find a spot to mount the pump in the SG05.

^^ what they said....as long as the pump is primed you shouldn't have a problem, the orientation that Sugar J mentions is possible but in my experiences I've never had an issue as long as it's primed and the feed of fluid remains constant, meaning filling up the res as you go and you should be fine.

meaning that the inlet is facing downward and drawing the fluid up to pump

PC pumps aren't self priming, would have to have rez higher then pump to work

What if the case rests on it's side when I start it?

provided that the pump is fill with fluid, then start your pump.

yes then once primed can turn back to your wanted position, and don't hear any marbles sounds

Laing specifically says that you're not supposed to run the DDC pumps upside down. Check this PDF for pics (page 3). If you do, I suppose you take your chances.
