You may want 4 fittings on reservoir - in/out and fill/drain. Plus fill/drain fittings.

As compression vs. barbs. yes, more $ initially but you can use them again, so it is one time cost, plus they are so much easier at time of maintenance or when you need disassemble loop for whatever reason.

The one's I had problems with were the Primochill 1/2" "high flow" ghost fittings, and I think it was a combination of short thread, small O-Ring on the barb, and slightly recessed mount for the o-ring, but it's the one and only fitting I've ever had problems with (happened on more than one mount) and as such I've avoided short thread barbs since then.

They are great fittings. W/ them and a combination of Primoflex LRT I don't even use hose clamps. There is no way the tubing will ever pop off.

Hey lowfat, u using 3/8" or 1/2" tubing with these barbs, I'm thinking my next loop setup, might use 3/8" tubing over 1/2".

That's gonna be tricky. I used 7/16 over 1/2" and found that to work pretty well. No experience trying to put 3/8 over 1/2" though.

I just use 3/8" barbs & tubing. Fitting 3/8" tubing over 1/2" barbs is hard. I did it on one of my radiators since it is old school and the 1/2" barbs are built in. However I would never do it by choice.
