There are a lot of reasons for this to have occured. Do you by chance have UV lighting in the case?

Instances will occur where growth is not possible because there are several factors the contribute to these types of colonies forming in water.

That being said, you could probably get away with using straight water if it was boiled before use in your Loop.

Don't forget to use anti-bacterial tubing, that can help as well. I managed to grab a small 0.999 pure silver "coin" about the size of a chiclet off ebay as well but I haven't used it yet. I am currently using antibacterial tubing with a few drops of iodine in distilled water and it running nice and clear. The one weird this is, I also added some blue die (purchased from NCIX, can't remember the brand) but after a month or so the colour disappears leaving just clear water

The "color" is probably blue sludge inside your waterblocks now. lol.
