Copper + Ketchup overnight = ?

Hey guys.

I took apart my loop today and to my horror, I found a bunch of gunk/ stains on the insides of my blocks.

Not 100% sure what it is, but it doesn't want to come off easily. After a rinse, obviously it's still there.

I did a ketchup scrub, not much off, but definitely an improvement.

It's kinda greyish and in patches. Again, not sure where it came from.

I'm wondering if it's okay to let my copper parts sit in ketchup overnight, or is this timeframe too long, and will I possible corrode the blocks beyond repair?

If all the gunk is removed, I wouldn't really worry too much otherwise. Don't think it affects performance that drastically.

As for the ketchup, not sure, and well I guess it depends on how many hours your "overnight" is.

About 8 hours. I would think the weird layer of stuff would hinder performance.

Much depends on if it's just a discolouration, or if the "grey area" is something you can feel on the surface. If it's just discolouration it shouldn't affect temps.

not good to leave overnite best use for spot cleaning only {note its a mild acid} rense well after use

as SSWilson stated if can feel it that be corrosin best sand it out

Add some salt to speed up the action. Don't leave it over night.

this may be entirely useless in this case but what about using pickling vinegar? it is pretty harsh stuff and will eat through whatever you are trying to dissolve faster than ketchup (I'm pretty sure it would have a lower PH than vinegar, correct me if I am wrong). and it is a liquid so it will rinse out more easily.
