Default Purchasing from Sidewinder Computers - Duties, Taxes, Hidden Fees?

Sidewinder has a discount right now for shipping to Canada

Just wondering, it says on their website that UPS Canada shipping has no hidden fees. Anyone have any experience with Sidewinders in general?

What you see on their website is exactly what you pay?

UPS is notorious for duties and administration fees.

Sorry if could be in a more proper subtopic. I'm ordering watercooling parts, so I stuck the thread here.

Unfortunately they're moving right now, so I can't ask them directly.

Did you ship using UPS Canada option? How much stuff did you order?

I guess their wording of "For domestic U.S. and Canada customers, there is no handling fee, packaging fee, or any hidden fees. Our website shipping tables are calculated for exact shipping costs by weight." is subject to interpretation...

Never get anything shipped from the US to Canada with UPS or any of those companies.

You could EASILY end up paying $40+ in brokerage fees alone.

Unless SWC marks the package as a gift or something.

They're moving, but I'll try and give them a call first thing tomorrow at 10:30 and see what they say. Will report back.

If you ship via USPS, and the declared value is under $50, Canada Post doesn't bother collecting the taxes. There are no duties using US Postal Service. I've bought small orders from Petras, Performance and Sidewinders, and never had to pay. They tend to under declare the value so you don't get stung for taxes. My last order from Performance was $40 US, they declared it as worth $5.

If you use UPS, there are always customs clearance and taxes due. The only time I use UPS is when I buy from Newegg, because they pre-clear it, bill the taxes and charge like $2 for customs. If UPS clears then collects from you, it's like $20.

I definitely don't have high hopes, but I'll ask anyway. Worst comes to worst I'll ship to my Amerifriend, or sit 3-6 weeks for NCIX to have stock again.

Thats good to know. I was thinking Sidewinder was like Newegg.ca, but logically thinking about it, I'm not paying Canadian taxes on my bill right now. It has to be collected by someone, and that someone will definitely be UPS.
