Thermal tape & Waterblock Question

I just bought a used water block for my 4870X2 it didn't come with any thermal pads.I was wondering if you can use thermal tape instead?The block is a Koolance block and with the installation guide it has 2 different thicknesses of thermal pad 0.5mm and 1.0 mm.Does anybody regularly use thermal tape on their waterblocks,or will I have to continue my search for thermal pads?Thanks in advance for al you help.

You can usually get away with it, unless the thermal tape is exceptionally sticky (might be hard to take off later on). But a lot of thermal tape is very thin, and many waterblocks assume a certain amount of clearance between it and the components on the PCB, to ensure to they get maximum block-core pressure. So you might have to double or triple layer the tape to ensure that everything else gets cooled too. It wouldn't be my first choice, but if you don't have any other options, you should be alright.

i would not use thermal tape, thermal tape is usually very sticky and you will have a very very hard time taking off the block later.

Ok then can someone tell me where to find thermal pads in Canada?and not somewhere where it is $10.00 for 3.0cm X 3.0cm

Doubt you'll find anything in Canada...

I know, not the right sizes but it's the right thickness. You'd just have to cut them into pieces to fit.

In the US, but its cheap and they have great shipping deal to Canada.
