Default Radiator advice needed ..

Alright guys, I have a Cosmos 1000 case, with the 2x 140mm fan holes up top.

Now for the same price, I can either buy an XSPC RX360 (3x120mm) or a Black Ice GTX 280 (2x 140mm).

Obviously, the Black Ice will fit with no mods. The XSPC, however will probably only draw fresh air from 2 fans and require minor mods for optimal 2 fan cooling or hardcore mods for 3 fan cooling.

Wondering what I should buy.

By the way, I am trying to cool down a Q9550, a GTX260 and a P35 northbridge.

Cheers!

My own personal experience would suggest that the 2 X 140mm would be the best bet. Since I was only able to get push/pull on half of a swiftech 2 X 120mm, I'd think that the larger cooling area of the 140mm would make up some of the loss.

The holes on the top of the 1000 are not standard so you will only be able to mount the rad to one set of fan holes. For example, a 2x120 or 2x140 rad will only mount to one of the fan holes but that is more than enough. I have a 2x120 uptop and it works fine. I end up cutting out the stamped grills and also doing some modes to the plastic cover to allow more air flow.

I am currently using a Swiftech MCR220, up-top. I know the 2x120mm can only be attached via 1 fan, which is sufficient fold holding.

But are you sure the 2x140mm doesn't attach properly with 2 fans? I was under the impression it did...

Off topic, but why not Feser 240? Are those two much less then $115CND?

IMHO bigger fans in smaller rad will cause loss of performance. You supposed to use silicon pads to seal assembly off to max airflow.

EDIT: Sorry misread the post. The larger surface wins: between 3x120 and 2 x140.

I think you might want to look at the 140mm rad, since the C1000 holes aren't properly aligned for a 120mm rad. The 120x3 rad has a slightly larger surface area, but that will be offset by the lack of fans on the third section. Plus, you'll likely get a better seal against the rad using the 140mm fans.

I'd also go with the dual 140mm rad, should get better flow, pressure, everything, all with that better seal. The only thing I would be sure of is to make very very sure of what sort of CFM range that rad likes to make sure that your fans can deliver.
