Now that's making me a little curious, because when I tried running a loop without the cap on (since that's normally just fine in a regular res), I got soaked. Thank goodness the loop was out of the computer. If you can do it, makes me think there might be an 'optimum' inlet and outlet, although I haven't actually seen it stated as such.

I'll probably take an extra day and swap the inlet/outlet around to see if it makes any difference. I only found one reference (through google) where the OP suggested that he had information from swiftech WRT an actual inlet/outlet on the QP-Res radiators. I had no luck when I posted the question on their website.

This is on my open bench so it's not that big of a deal for me to switch them around (aside from partially draining the loop).

is it strange that my first w/c build was foam free the whole time? It had a few bubbles for maybe 5min or so, then nothing...

Nope, that's the way it should be, although some times it does take a while to get all of the microbubbles out. Most loops I've put together didn't take more than overnight to clear up completely.

I'm having problems with my loop not bleeding properly (it's been running for months and I've still got "foam" once it gets up to speed) and it's been suggested that having the barbs at the top of the rad will help it to bleed.
sounds to me that the new rad won't help you

Question are you using zipties for clamps ?

any chance of the said set-up pic's

I'm not concerned about a new rad "helping me"... I'm trying to ensure that flipping the rad over isn't going to blow up in my face... :)

As far as zip ties go... yep I am using zip ties, but I use 2 on each barb, and they're only on the barb portion (not creeping up on the hose).

I'll try to get a pic up in the morning.

Flipping it over will work, make sure the cap is tight and sealed. As for your foam issue, I found out from trial-and-error and using so many different pump/res combos that the smaller the res the more foam you get. If the res allows a clean flow to the pump - micro-bubble free, then you should not have any. Do you have clear tubing? Do you see the bubbles at the pump inlet/outlet, or from somewhere else in the loop?

Inlet/outlet made no difference in temps on many of my rigs.

I have a single piece of clear tubing (put it in specifically so that I could see the coolant :) ) that runs from the rad to the inlet of the pump.

So no way to know where the bubbles are created, or where turbulence could be an issue.

Other than the fact that it's coming directly from the rad, no.
