Will extra radiator be needed?

Hi guys,

I was wondering if I needed to add an extra radiator to my loop if I wanted to cool a 4870 X2 in my loop. I can probably make room in my case for another 240mm radiator if needed.

I am currently running a single loop with a i7 920 CPU which is overclocked to 4GHz. I am using a Thermochill 120.3 pa with a Swiftech GTZ cpu block and a Swiftech MicroRes. I am using 3 fans in a pull configuration on the radiator. The loop is powered by a Swiftech MCP655 pump.

What would the temperature difference between adding an extra 240mm radiator and not adding another radiator be?

Any suggestions or advice would be much appreciated.

Personally I don't think you will need an extra rad as the two 4870 cores wont be too much of strain on the system if they are anything like my 4870's. What GPU block were you going to use?

No need for a second rad - the 120.3 is plentyful.

I was planning on using the Koolance VID-487x2. Would the full-blocks from EK or Danger Den be any better?

I wish I had a 120.3 just for my CPU.

My 120.2 barely keeps up with my i7 920 at 3.9 GHz. My ambients suck as the case exhausts heat out and the air around it gets heated up due to poor air circulation in my room.

If it were my rig, I'd get the extra rad. But that's me.

My 120.2 keeps up internally in the P182 with dual 38mm Scythes, with the 920 at 4.0, the X58-Extreme NB block and the DD FC GTX260 block, same loop... Temps while crunching on the CPU: 60-62C across all 4 cores, and GPU folding at the same time - GPU temp of 47C.

I'd say it's holding itself quite well.

You have a 120.2 cooling both an i7 920 AND GPUs? Wow...

I am at 59-64 on 3.9GHz 1.35v across all four cores with my 120.2 internal on my H2GO in a dedicated loop with the EK Supreme and an MCP655 with two Scythe S-Flex SFF21Gs

How are noise on you S-Flex SFF21Gs if undervolted with a fan controller? I am currently using some Scythe Slip Stream 1900rpm fans but read on the web that they lack static pressure. I am considering getting some S-Flex SFF21Gs since 38mm fans aren't an option for me.

I think would go for the SFF21Fs next time.

I find these a touch louder than I'd like at full speed. When undervolted, they get nice and quiet, but I find my temps go up by about 3 or 4 degrees across all four cores. My next build will be all about rad overkill so I can get some nice quiet fans...

920 @ 4.0 + NB + single 260 on the 120.2 w/dual Scythe 38mm. Works like a charm.
