Default Silver as a biocide

Hi all,

Well recently people have been putting silver into their loops as it acts as a natural biocide to your watercooling loop.

So i decided to order some pure 99.99 silver 16 gauge wire of the net and decided to give it a try. Expensive
5 feet ran me about $40 or so.

Got the wire today and did a little amateur bending, this little coil will be dropped in my EK 250 reservoir to cleanse my loop :D

Just thought i'd share the experience.

Yes i know iandh has some and yes they look cooler than mine!

So the idea is that you only need some of this in one small part of the loop to act as a biocide?

Yup supposedly the silver leeches into the liquid and does the same as PT Nuke.

Yup, since all the liquid will move through that one part of any loop.
The coil will come into contact with all the liquid and there for cleaning your loop of those unwanted microbials.

Well, thats the idea lol

I suppose silver/lead solder wouldn't be a good idea? (Silver being one of the "pure" metals... :) ).

LoL i dont think thats a good idea at all.

Not sure on the polarity of lead, but im sure it wont do well with all the other metals in your loop.

Well, at least I've got something to add to my christmas stocking list.....

Honey, I'm thinking that a silver necklace might be nice... gotta be 99% pure though.... :)

I don't remember a whole lot of chemistry but a little googling shows that the silver and copper in the loop will form about a 0.2V cell with the copper (water blocks) being corroded. Can anyone confirm this true or false?
