If there is a o-ring, no need to use teflon tape or silicon sealant.

I'd never needed to use it prior to getting these primochill ghost barbs, but it did the trick for them. (Great White Pipe Joint Compound).

Thank's gang. Someone had brought it up on another forum, and being a complete noob at the watercooling thing, I figured I better confirm. Now if only I hadn't been sent Magicool Socket reducers instead of EK barbs.

I've used Vaseline on barbs that were used in filtration loops at a marine lab. So far the O-rings on the Swiftech barbs have worked fine so not needed anything extra-hopefully Bitspower barbs will be fine too.

If the barbs have a oring nothing is necessary. Vaseline will make it easier to take apart down the road. If there is no oring just use some teflon tape (plumbers tape) just make sure to wrap it in the opposite direction of the thread so when it is screwed in the teflon gets wrapped tighted instead of getting loosened.

Which barb size do you need?
