Default Fan Shroud?

I'm about to try my first water cooling loop. I just wanted to know if a fan shroud is a necessity and if it makes that much of a difference? Opinions appreciated.

It's not absolutely necessary, in fact most folks seem to do fine without it. That said.... it will improve airflow a bit in that it will help get rid of the "dead spot" in the middle of the fan.

A nice easy mod to make your own shroud :Get some cheap or old 120mm fans. Cut the Fan part out of it. There you have it, the perfect shroud.

In my experience, the shroud is not worth the cost. I have done with and without and none of my most recent loop use one.

Also, I see you use a vendetta-2 on a dual core, wich is a really good set up already. Are you going water for a bigger overclock ? If so, what are you current temp, and what is limiting your overclock ?

I just wanted to try water cooling for the sake of water cooling. I haven't started overclocking, I just assembled the rig and got it going. Going to try overclocking it this weekend.

Did you put some kind of metal piece on the sides, where did you screw them?
