Default 8800gtx sli to gtx260 ??

Hi all, how would 1 gtx260 match up against 2 8800gtx sli cards? I was think about replacing my cards with the 260, but only fixed for 1 right now ($$$) and was going to add another 1 as soon as the wife removes her foot from rear end area . Would it be a step down until I get 2 or should I just wait until I can pick up 2 gtx260's at the same time?. I game at 1680 by 1050, 20inch lg flatron wide.
Thanx for any help.

I'm going to say your SLI'd 8800GTXs are way faster. Isn't a single 8800GTX pretty close to the GTX260?

Though you aren't running a high resolution, so the GTX260 might actually not be slower and could possibly be faster. With 1680x1050 I don't think SLI/Crossfire is really worth it as a single card can usually do that fine.

Well if you sell your 2 8800GTX cards then you could get the second one and run 2 GTX260's in SLi.

Thanx for the help, maybe I'll just ride my 8800's out until I can grab 2x280's.

I wouldn't bother. 8800GTX in SLI has got to be close or better in gaming than a GTX260.

I was really impressed with my brothers 8800GTX SLI in Crysis at your res. Just wait for the DDR5, 512bit 45nm GTX280 in early 2009...

I'm in the same boat....however, upon researching I decided to sell my 8800 GTX and pick up an Evga GTX 260 FTW.
Have a close look at the Bandwidth speed, as in my old 8800 GTX @ 87 GB/Sec vs my new GTX 260 @ 124 GB/Sec, of course its a faster card!
Also, big issue with 8800 GTX in SLI is HEAT!!! Hope you git a great case to expell al that heat my friend, cause its gonna cook in thier with 2 8800 GTX's!
As for "wait until________", why bother, if thats the attitude you'd never buy anythingt cause you'll spend your whole life "waiting"!
Bottom line, the GTX 260 is faster, quieter and runs cooler. Also, as prices drop, you can get a second one (if you really want SLI and gaming on a 30" monitor), without the heat issues of the 8800 GTX in SLI.

My 2 cents worth.
Good luck!
