Using 4870 X2 Crossfire vs GTX 280 XXX 3-way SLI

Test System
  • 2x ATI Reference Radeon HD 4870 X2 - 2gb
  • 3x XFX GeForce GTX 280 XXX - 1gb
  • Skulltrail D5400XS motherboard - 1140 bios
  • 8GB of Crucial FB DDR2 @ 800mhz (4x2GB)
  • 2x Intel QX9775 Engineering Samples (@ 4.4 Ghz 11x400, 1.475 volts)

Skulltrail - XFX GTX 280 XXX 3-Way SLi /4870X2 CFx - Introduction - DriverHeaven.net

The 3-way SLI wins the benchmarks, mostly by small margin (except on Crysis). Arguably because it's a more expensive setup (close to $1500, compared to $1200 for the X2s).

Umm, that's just for the GPU's. Total system cost is what, like 8k?

These tests are pointless. Anything over 120 fps is nonsense. From what I hear only TVs can display at 120 Hz and the general public only gets 1920x1080 displays. Absolutely pointless. Give them props for getting the idea though...

Not at all. Those high FPS in said games, are the result of building a system that can(somewhat) handle Crysis....recheck the Crysis benches... 4870X2 X-Fire'd @1920x1200..0AA, 0AF- Min-31FPS, Max-59FPS, Average-45FPS.<<- not pointless.

Bah, who runs Crysis anymore other than benchmarkers? That's so last year.
