Wow great review! I'm wondering is it still worth going the crossfire route if the mother board is only capable of x8/x8 bandwidth???

If you are thinking of going with 2X HD4870 cards I suggest you wait.

That's all I needed to hear.

SKY, one thing I'd love to see if you ever have enough time (and who really does, these days?) is "Trifire" results with "The Beast" and the 4870.

As you will see in my review, the HD4870 X2 had some serious incompatibility problems with my DFI board. It pushed the review back at least 3 days.

So, while I may not have Tri-Fire results right now (damn full-time job), I hope to by the end of the week.

Ah no, a 4850 should suit my needs, and leave space for upgrading further down the road whether its crossfire or a new card.

But i can't shake the feeling that I'm buying at the wrong time.

I hear you. I have one of those, too (FT job )

Anyway, I look forward to seeing your results!

I think I'll probably just wait for a while and grab an X2 once EK brings out their full-coverage block, then, if Trifire works, I could always grab an extra 4870 down the road.
