Powercolor HD48x0 with 1 Gigabyte VRAM
Powercolor releases the first HD 4870 (OC) with 1 GiByte

Jul 18, 2008 16:13 - Since AMD's Radeon HD 4800 series can only be called extremely successful, Powercolor is the first producer to take advantage of the situation and releases a overclocked HD 4870 with one Gigabyte video memory and an own cooling system.
Powercolor gave the first pictures of the card to PCGH exclusively.

Looks interesting...

Have to wait for reviews to see if there's any benefit in having 1GB though.

Well seeing as that article was written today, and is exclusive to that site, it'll be a few weeks till any reviews pop up I think.

I too am wondering what performance boost the extra memory will give, and how much of a premium you will have to pay for it. I am going to risk it and still go ahead and buy 2 standard HIS HD4870's.

It will be interesting to see how much benefit we get from the extra memory, what with the smaller memory interface. You can't really rely on the photo on their site to be accurate. It's probably the exact same one they use for the regular 4870, just not updated yet.

I'm guessing that it would be about the same as the gtx 280... potentially even better.. but who knows really, any ideas on what the price of it would be?
