Thumbs up GTX200 series price drop!

Well if you were waiting to pick up your gtx280(s) then now is the time! Saw it on this thread over at EVGA forums. I can now get a gtx280 shipped to Newfoundland for less than $650! That's for the BFG version anyway. Apparently these are 'sales' but the same thing happened when the 9800gtx dropped. So those prices should stay. I actually saw a link to a fudzilla article about this, obviously not the most reliable source online but it turns out they were right! Seems like the 260 got dropped as well but not near as much as the 280. We can thank AMD for this one.

Yes they are all dropping pretty hard now- you can get an EVGA GTX260 fro $372.

Trouble is because EVGA seems to sort the cores by overclocking and rank products accordingly it may not overclock very well.

Plus its still a ways off the price of the 4700 which can give it a hard time in DX10. I wonder if retailers like NCIX are making a loss on all this.

come on baby, just a little more...

I'm still undecided, I may just be cheap and get a 9800GTX and wait a year.
ATI is tempting, but I'm still traumatized from my last experience.

Well the GTX 280 is now cheaper then 2 4870's in CF. So now it is looking a bit better. Still I wouldn't buy it.

Wouldn't buy the 280 unless it dropped to the $389 mark. Considering the 4870 is roughly 10-15% "weaker" (arguably), the price is still waaaaaay to low compared to the 280. NVidia got pwned with 55nm.

With the 55nm 9800GTX+ coming out soon, I wouldn't be surprised if the GTX200 series switches to 55nm as well.

Nvidia keeps cuttings prices (HEXUS)

This may have something to do with the price cuts.
