If it works well, I may consider give a try to CF sooner than I thought.

Can anyone shine light on the Drivers I will need some are saying they just installed card, uninstalled 8.6 and then reinstalled with new card onboard and everything went well, while others are saying you need "hotfix" and that has lead them down a path of misery and BSOD.....I'm confused.
The Hotfix is NOT NOT NOT NOT meant to be installed on top of old drivers. "Hotfix" is a name that ATI gives to their BETA DRIVERS so you should go through the whole uninstall process of the old drviers and then install the Hotfix as you would install regular drivers.

Use the Hotfix.

Kinda doubtful that this will work, besides, doesn't CF underclock the more powerful card when you tag together two dissimilar cards?

Maybe but a 3870 will easily do the clock speeds of the 4870, so even if it did get evened out, no big deal.

My bet is that it will work for some games, but will be unsupported, and may have problems.

3850+3870 CF is almost as good as 2x3870s and better than 2x3850s, so its hard to say.

This is an odd one...

4850 is the only card seen in CCC. the 3850 is nowhere to be seen in it, but its detected fine. Shows up in Device Manager, GPU-Z. I thought maybe its because the cat 8.7s' install directory is labled R700. To be sure, I installed the 8.6s on the 3850 but kept the 8.7 betas on the 4850 with no success. Looks like she doesn't wanna come out and play... maybe I should wait for the 8.7s to come out? do we have a date for them?
