Did I just come at the right time and saw this review..

Thanks SKY, seems to be a solid performance card, especially beating the 9800GTX as you mentioned, which it was made to compete with. Also came really close to the GTX 280 is some benches/games.

Any idea when it is supposed to hit stores ?

ATI really surprised me. I've got a 4850 ordered. Should be a decent upgrade from my 7900gs :)

I was at AMD yesterday and they quoted several times: "hard launch" but they were iffy about availability here in Canada. It all has to do with shipping, customs and a bevy of other crap the retailer here in Canada have to go through.

I do not mean to be an ass but...

With ATI catapulting this product into the void left in the $300 price point by Nvidia’s seemingly panicked move of reducing the price of their 9800 GTX to around $200, you would think they would want to get it would as soon as possible.

Umm.. Huh? "get it out as soon.." perhaps?

No matter how impressive they look on paper, the one thing that stands out about the new cards is the HD4870’s inclusion of the new GDDR3 memory.

Great review SKYMTL, I'm here at work and I have been refreshing hardwarecanucks and anandtech hoping to find some info on the hd4870. This really makes me want to ditch my 8800GTS 512. And the crossfire performance is so great it also gives me an excuse to ditch this 680i board and get something crossfire friendly. NCIX here I come...

simply amazing card, espcially crossfire compability with the superb Intel and AMD chipsets.
Question
Crossfire HD 4850 ($400)vs. HD 4870 ($300).
Now which would be the better buy? Obviously 4850 would have better performance but which would be the better deal?

A fully cover HD3870 block WILL NOT fit due to the placement of the large inductors.

Well looks like the new core only D-Tek waterblock for me :)
