Default The Radeon RX480 8GB Performance Review (Comment Thread)

Fast, efficient and well priced, AMD's RX480 8GB is looking to dominate the mid-range. It may only cost just $239 but the RX480's performance strives to compete against NVIDIA's GTX 970.

As a user who is still holding onto their $199 to $249 graphics cards from years ago, thanks for the review. I just wish I knew more about partner implementations before running around and seeing where there's stock.

Looks like it's pretty much where they said it would be. Great review as always.

Solid performer for that price bracket. Huge improvement regarding power consumption as well. Paired with a 1440p freesync monitor I believe this to be a pretty good value proposition overall. Curious to see how prices will translate up here though.

Yep no real surprises based on recent leaks and in line with the expectations AMD had set (that's a minor miracle of it's own... ;) ). I was personally hoping for just a little bit more oomph @ 1440, but it is as expected a relatively slight improvement over my current GTX 970.

Should be a hit, hopefully the reports on stock are also correct.

edit: Any word on actual Canadian stock levels and when it's supposed to be released publically?

Yup, about what I thought too, though those temps on the pcb.. :O

looking forward to seeing the full line-ups... Wonder when we'll hear more about 1060's 1080TI, 490 and whatever else may be coming our way.

I like it.

I'm glad AMD brought something to the party that fits nicely in the "value" segment. And with the short PCB and a water block it would be nice for a smaller build.

Good job AMD and good job SKY on getting this review out so fast. I'm waiting for Vega/1080Ti as a single card 4K capable card, but if I were in the mid-range space right now I would definitely look at this pretty much.

Also, eagerly awaiting OC results. Hardocp got it to 1340 with some initial attempts, but with the added complexities of "WattMan" looking to see what HWC comes up with.

Thanks SKY and HWC!

Weird, most other reviews show a 970 beating this in pretty much every case. This review shows this beating the 970 in almost all the cases and the 980 as well.

Sorry guys, responses will be limited for the next little while. I'm at the end of a vacation so I don't have super great internet access. Sorry "vacation" with all these launches....

As for the results, I completely stand by the results since I know the amount of runs I went through to validate all benchmarks. ;)
