Default New GPU

Hello,

This is my first post and it regards a choice I have to make next week.

My current GPU died out and Iíll need to get a new one. Below are the GPUs Iím considering. I live in Europe so youíll see the prices in Euros.

I could really use some help choosing between these graphics cards. I was also considering the Gigabyte GTX970 G1 GAMING 4GB, but realized itís too big for my tower. Iím mainly wondering if itís worth to spend the extra money on the EVGA card since Iíve read many good things about the MSI card and itís considerably cheaper.

  • EVGA GTX970 FTW ACX2.0 4GB DDR5 (04G-P4-2978-KR) Ė 429Ä (3 years warranty)
  • MSI GTX 970 GAMING 4G DDR5 (GV-N970G1-GAMING-4G) Ė 379Ä (2 years warranty)

Thanks

SSD#1: SAMSUNG SSD 256GB SATA 3 Serie 840 Pro
SSD#2: OCZ SSD VERTEX 2 60GB SATA 2.5Ē (R 285MB / W 275MB)

Have you thought of the ASUS STRIX?

Yes it was actually one of my first choices, but I keep seeing these cards being considered better than the Asus GTX970 STRIX OC 4GB DDR5.

Asus actually has a strong representation here, unlike EVGA.

Is the Asus Strix better, in your opinion? Here it costs 399Ä.

Choose: EVGA FTW or SC, Gainward Phantom, Palit Jetstream, MSI OC because they are compatible with your PSU, 2 x 6-pin PCI-E power connectors...
- Asus strix - 1 x 8 pin PCI-E power connector
- MSI Gaming, Gigabyte - 1 x 6 pin + 1 x 8 pin PCI-E power connectors

Choose whichever is cheaper. I would get the MSI one. Any PCIe connectors are backwards compatible, as long as it is 6+2 pins.

The HX750 has 6+2 pin PCIE connectors so either card is fine.

In fact I think it has four of them IIRC.

- PSU 6 pin PCI-E power connector deiver 75w
- Videocard 8 pin PCI-E connector need 150W
Corsair HX650W has 2 x 6 pin power connectors & 6 pin to 6+2 pin cable but you cannot use them to a card that needs 300W(75w from PCI-E motherboard slot, 75W from 6 pin & 150W from 8 pin).

I have the MSI 970, and it's not overly big, in fact I don't think it extends beyond the motherboard, so that should work with just about any case. People say the MSI sags alot when the motherboard is vertical, I can't speak to that since i have my case on it's side, so no card sags that way.
