Kinda hard to replicate a benchmark on BF4 when there is no true loop, so losing 5 on minimum could have been an anomaly during testing (ie, didnt follow the exact same patch as the last test)

I have switched back to xfx bios for now, I do see some improvement but is it enough to justify possibly killing your card?
For now, I say no. But I did have fun flashing it and seeing those extra shaders and TMU's like the 290X has.

I don't mind being the guinea pig to find if it possible, but I'm not sure I want to be the one to say I killed my card.

I am curious to know if the board specs are exactly the same as the R290X (components on board)

I will say this though, the 290 is no slouch when overclocking and with steady clocks, it does keep up with his "X" brother quite well.

I hear that. I wouldn't do it myself. Good call.

might have to buy one of these to flash it and see how long it lasts. I miss my days of frying hardware for breakfast just because....

Yes, reference cooler. It basically artifacted and then refused to register its display outputs. That's a dead GPU.

Remember, there's a REASON these cores have part of their SIMD arrays cut.....they didn't make the grade for the 290X.

Could you not just switch back to the stock Bios that disables those SIMD's?

that should have been a option and then just reflash back.

otherwise the whole gpu failed which leads me to believe it was a general failure.

techPowerUp GPU-Z Validation 897yb

Have to do more tests but it looks like I got it to work (xfx 290). The xfx seem to have the highest success rate of these.

Congrats and welcome to the club

However, it seems xfx success rate is a little behind Powercolors 290. I have read one xfx fail so far and there are more powercolors that have unlocked and none that haven't. Sapphires, Gigabytes, Asus have had none unlock successfully.

To bad I am getting black screens all the time now though and found this is a common thing among 290/290x users, specifically with elpida ram (which mine has).

Might have to RMA it unless a driver patch fixes it or something. Also sent in a support ticket to see what xfx says.

AMD PR rep did post something on the forums (can't remember where) but stated their driver team is aware of the issue and is hopefully bringing out a new driver to fix this by the end of the week.
I feel for you with black screens. I remember my cold bug on my 5970 when it was watercooled. I would have to essentially put a load on the gpus to warm up before I could play any game or it would crash (grey screen). It took 6 months for a new bios from Sapphire to fix the issue as they were the only ones to admit to the issue.
