Bought new videocards

So I got a bonus at work, and went a little overboard, but I think I should be good for a while.

I was going to hold off until the Radeon R9 290X with custom coolers start showing up, because they seem to run so hot with the reference coolers, and who knows if that's partially to blame to the high wattage draw on them or not. But I've been looking at a pair of new cards for a while, and grabbed these at 525$ a piece on sale. I figured I can't wait forever and just pulled the trigger on these

Won't lie, a single one of these was overkill, and two is most definitely pure impulse

Why did Asus provide such an ugly SLi bridge with that motherboard...

I asked myself the same question. I have other SLI bridges around, I just need to locate them and I can fix that ugliness I think

EVGA sells some nice custom lighted brushed aluminum ones for 30 bucks. Pricey, but they are sweet.

Hope you don't regret that with the 290 review today. :(

well, I factored those being around the corner, and as i said, can't wait forever when there's always a new deal around the corner. I've finally got a pair of new cards, and the gf is happy that I'll shut up about it LOL

Preliminary testing by PCPER indicated that early 290X Crossfire setups were far from optimal.

Seeing as you went with an SLI setup, I think the 780 was the card to go with. Single card setups, the 290 would be the one to get, methinks. You made the right choice!

I'm thinking of ditching my Tri SLi 680 Classys for a couple of 780's, but I'm going to wait until after the 7 Nov for 2 reasons:

1. See what the specifications, price n performance are of the 780ti
2. See what kind of price drops we get on Titans

I'm figuring around $750 for the ti's but have to wait n see.

How do you find the noise of those ACX coolers while gaming?

Although older ... The 280x is getting a die change to run cooler (Tahiti XT2 GPU -> Tahiti XTL). I am thinking of getting a R9 290X, hopefully they implement a change for that too by December.
