IMO larger resolutions like 1440/1600P need more screen size than 27/30" in order to really appreciate the details in games as the pixel density just makes things to compressed or small at that PPI.
Thats a pretty ridiculous statement. 27" at 1080 is not very nice at all, the ppi is terrible and everything is HUGE on the screen. 1080 max is 24", 27" min for 1440 (anything smaller is a bit ridiculous at that res)

If multi-monitor, sli and huge res are so irrelevant to the gpu makers, why do the spend many many millions in research and dev to come up with them and refine them and indeed any new stuff.

Perfect example is shadow play. How many people will really use it? but they support it because the enthusiast use it and everyone else wants it whether they will use it or not.. Same for SLI and multi-monitor and anything else really. G-sync is a perfect new example.

Enthusiasts can be seen as their product research in a way.. If the enthusiasts hate it they will advise all their friends, family and colleagues not to buy. the reach is enormous outside of just what they buy.

New consoles @ $400-500 are definitely competition for high end GPU upgrades. Believe it or not, a lot of people play both console and PC games. It's not as segmented as fan boys may lead one to believe.

1080P on a 27"+ display makes for a hideous desktop experience. For gaming, 1080p vs 1440p is a trade off because resolution is so costly in terms of GPU resources.

In the days of multisync CRTs, it was usually better to play at a lower resolution with max image quality. The crappy scaling of most flat panels has taken this option away. Therefore 2560x1440 can be a liability to those on mid-range hardware. It may result in a lower overall graphical experience at the same framerate vs 1080P.

"There comes a point where a video card is simply too loud for what it does, and with the 290 AMD has reached it." - Anandtech

I would have to agree that I would personally stay away from this card because of the noise levels. I also am not a fan of thinking of HOW much this will heat up my room when winter ends and I can't keep my door WIDE OPEN in the -20*C ....

If I was installing a waterblock or it achieved the same performance without being able to hear it over my game while wearing headphones, it would deserve every award you could throw at it.

First who said anything about 27" 1080P. We are talking 1440P 27" and you changed the subject to 27" 1080... You seem a bit opinionated and confused.

YOU were saying... even 1920x1200 is to low for 27".. What other res would you have at 27" if 1440 is too high?

Stop trolling now please.

You said 1440 is to high res for 27"... what other res do you suggest then? 1080? 1200?

It's just horrible to have those res at 27" or more.. stop talking crap.

That's your opinion. My opinion is slightly different than yours though. PC games looked best on my Sony Bravia Z series 42" TV though because of the better contrast and colors.
