Like the price vs performance obviously, but those power numbers feel like a kick in the groin.

For gamers this is a great card. Taking a look around at 'conpute' numbers, it does very well too. Folding@home is a bit of a different story, and looks much worse when you look at power draw.

Prices of the high-end should go down with this card. Really, really glad I waited to get that shiny 780.

Thanks SKYMTL for a great review!
I already seen the caps, so... not questioning never showing us the core again :) However I do have some question and that is - why Battlefield 3 test is omited? Since Crysis/FarCry engines tendt to cheat for the nVidia team, the BF looks to be too good to be included for more balanced view towards AMD:

This is not looking anything like we see in the review :)

On the side note, I would rebuild the R9 290X cooling from scratch to get the temperatures under control and then it probably show way more speed :)

I don't know where you get that information. Far Cry 3 is a Gaming Evolved title which has optimizations for the GCN architecture while Crysis 3 did away with all the silly ultra tessellation of its predecessor. As for BF3, it's old now, especially with BF4 coming out.

The entire test suite is due for an update in the coming month or so. We've moving to IVB-E along with new games like BF4, Watch_Dogs and some others.

I am surprised. Nice review SKY. Great bang for buck (for a high end card). If I was purchasing I would wait for the DCII version (or equivalent) to keep noise and temps under control to go along with the FPS.

All Nvidia has to do is lower the price of the 780 and release the 780ti.

HWC hasn't used BF3 in their benchmark suite for almost a year now....much to my chagrin, but be that as it may. I'm hoping though, Sky, that once BF3 comes out, you'll do another 'mini-review' of all the major players to see how they perform in that game?

Anyway. Wow, just wow. The price/performance graph you had at the end was the major telling of what AMD has done here.

I'm really glad to see that AMD has their shit together again, and that they're being realistic with the pricing. I was lamenting just a few days ago about how the top end of video cards are no longer attainable for the majority of gamers. Well, turns out Nvidia is completely to blame for that, and AMD is doing something to rectify the situation.

Thank You, AMD, for finally bringing the top end of graphics cards back down to earth.

Nvidia, the rest is up to you, you greedy bastards!

Also, I'm not convinced that Mantle will be the game changer you think it is. In fact, I don't think it will make one whit of difference in the early applications, and probably won't gain the traction needed to make any serious gains in the coming years.

But, who cares? Traditional performance with this card is great!

Oh, and I can't wait to see how the custom coolers from the board partners perform. If the Powertune works as advertised, I'm guessing we'll see some nice performance bumps.

I am a Nvidia fanboy. Having said that I want to thank AMD for providing a competitive product. Without AMD we would all pay the price. Again great work AMD and thank you!!!

Confused at the 1/8th DP rate - Hawaii was supposed to have 1/2! Maybe there will be a Hawaii Ultra some day. Looks like the DPM states are working pretty well. With an aftermarket cooler, that thing should scream.

AMD strikes again like they did in the old days with their CPUs.

Not a top performer but a bargain in $$/Value and will force Nvidia to look at their prices and product if they want to keep up.

Competition is always good for the customer.
