I'm quite disappointed that there wasn't even a die shrink on these.. Waiting to see what the 8xx series does from team green.
That said, wow what a cooler from xfx..

Also with these performance numbers I don't see why Nvidia should drop prices on the 670, 760 and 770 if they are still selling vs the 7970.
I think Nvidia knew exactly what was being released and has countered every move so far (within their abilities) with the release of the documentation and the price-drops on the lower - mid level cards.
I think that watching for price-drops or similar from Nvidia will show as much as the 290 release itself will show and probably a week before it's out too.

Looks like the 280 performs right around a GTX 670 to me which has been out of production for some time...and at the same price it was at 6 months ago....Not sure this is so great a value.

Total waste of time re branding these they should have just kept selling their 7xxx lines at their current sub 300$ price ranges instead of wasting everyone's time with these 280x and lower stuff at a increased 300$, and now less performance vs 7970 ghz edition's and from what I hear so far locked voltages with less oc headroom.

Big waste of hype and positioning imho considering they already had the market sealed up tight in these areas.

Did you not read the conclusion on the 280X and the Value graph?

760 is the worst possible thing you could buy right now with the 770 right behind it.

Guys, relax

WE've known all along that these Cards (280x and below) were rebrands. There is nothing new here.

The big surprise will be the 290x and 290 reviews, the 290x is a titan beater.

At MSRP yes. But market price, no.

Great review as always. I'm pleased with what AMD did here. If you look at the product positioning despite the current 79xx sell off, it's got the best price performance ratio of the bunch. This diagram sums up the review best IMO:

Also, anyone who currently deals with cards that sound like leaf blowers when maxed out, I think the noise and temperature achievements for this card are amazing:

These two graphs make the R9 280X impressive, IMO.
