My System Specs

Default 2 sapphire 7950s similar Overclock very different 3dmark Results

I got 2 sapphire cards , but I got 2 different versions. One card came with the following sku : 11196-01 stock card came at 810mhz and 1250mem. This card came clocked at 1.093v as per trixx. I ran many runs in Heaven and was able to achieve the following performance before hitting the maximum clocks of 1220/1500 at 1.25v.
The second card I got was the boost OC edition which came with a clock of 925mhz and mem of 1250 but the voltage as per trixx was set at a default 1.25v. I was able to boost core to 1180 and memory seems to be between 1600-1700( didnt finish final tests, have to go to bed).

Upon completing the tests and finding my maximums I decided to get a 3dmark Performance score to guauge my results. I was able to achieve 9776 on the non-oc version (11196-01) and 8360 on the OC version (11196-19).

I find this odd because the difference in clocks is 20mhz on the core for the non-OC and 150mhz on the memory in favor of the OC .

Could someone explain to me why there is a gap of 1400 score between the two? Did I miss something. I have a detailed write-up of my runs with Heaven

thanks for the help!

Here are the details of the first cards runs in Heaven. and the 3dmark scores for both.

The card with the higher voltage is also resting at a lower temperature. Is it being throttled somehow? Is the cooling the same on the card?

well the thing maybe the oc is not stable.
also like the guy said on top the card could be going up and down.
also maybe 1 card has boost and is hitting better clocks.
you should check to see what the card is doing
in afterburn it should be a straight line no going up and down.

I have gotten suggestions to set power controls to +20% on the Boost edition card which is the one that seems to be lacking in benchmarks, even though it is similar in core clock at 1180 and mem at 1600. I didnt pay attention to graph before however I just tried the +20% and the GPU core load in GPU-Z is straight line. However I do think this might be the whole boost/throttling on the OC card.

The cooling is identical! the cards look same... only different color pcbs and different outputs on the back. Also one has a little switch for the 2nd bios and the boost card has a push-type button for the second bios.

I think I will try more testing with +20% and try to use second bios to OC

thanks for all the help guys!
