Default couple questions about sli/crosfire

i currently have just a plain jane asus 7850. i have the opportunity to snag another 7850 but its a v2 1000mhz where as mine is just an 870 without oc but i have been very lucky with ocing my current card. if i was to grab another 7850 how would this affect crossfire and i wanna assume those two cards would work because there of the same brand and make minus the clock settings and would be able to be ran in crossfire. i guess my question is would i then have to take my first 7850 and downclock it to the new 7850's settings for crossfire to work or what? i wanna assume i would be able to just find a happy medium between the two cards oc wise and be safe but i just want to be sure before i spend money on the 7850 thus forgoing anything thats new and currently coming out like the 760 and such.

AMD CrossFire? FAQ

That should answer your questions my friend. Always spend at least 5 minutes searching before you blindly ask.

I use a 7950 @ 1300mhz and a 7970 @ 1300. They both work just fine in crossfire. I have tested them at different clock speeds vs the same and the only difference I saw was the 7970 would be at 96% load and the 7950 would be @ 99% load. I know you should match the cards but so long as they are both 79xx or 78xx etc they will work.

Yup CF works great with mixed cards. Just dumbs down to the lowest common denominator.

Wow.. not a line (even out of context) I thought I'd be seeing. At least not till their drivers are fixed.

IMO sell up and buy a single card.. headaches and jittery frames do not make a good experience.

other thing to look at is your PSU is up to the task of CF meaning does the 12v rail support both cards, min 25 amps

I'm not privy to the current CF situation. Even back when I was using it (X1950 Pro 2007ish) it worked rather well for me.

It is true that a single fast card will give you a better experience if the driver you are using does not properly support the game you are running. CF/SLi will yield better FPS and potentially a better experience but that is OT.

Look at any of the newer GPU reviews (specifically the titan vs cf / sli) very jumpy and a few fails. Not that SLI is perfect but it does look much more stable.
