Question Replacement for Radeon 4850?

Hello,

I have an older machine running an ASUS P5QE motherboard and an Intel E8400 processor with 8 GB RAM and a Corsair TX650 PSU. Lately the video games are starting to run the fan on the ASUS Radeon 4850 pretty hard.

I want to run Skyrim at 1900x1200 and Diablo III at high res without the video card turning into a vaccuum cleaner. What is the best video card I can put on this system as a replacement?

Thanks!

Lots of great cards available. What's your budget.

The 650ti boost is a really good value, especially for skyrim. I wouldn't go too high, as your CPU would bottleneck the video card.

Thanks. Budget could be up to $225 or so. I don't mind spending money if the card is cool, quiet, and would go on the next gen motherboard. Monitor is HDMI but a displayport would be nice too. I'm partial to ASUS hardware and NVidia graphics chipsets but have no qualms about a Radeon if its a better card.

That budget allows you to get a GTX 660. I like the 650ti boost because it's usually much cheaper, and it's essentially the same card, just slightly trimmed down. I managed to grab a GTX 660 for $180 before tax and MIR, so it was a no brainer over the 650ti boost.

Agree with others. 660 if it falls in your budget on sale, otherwise a 650ti boost

I'll agree with the others. Skyrim tends to prefer nvidia cards. So if you'll mainly be playing that game, go nvidia.

You could almost get an openbox 7950 for that +tax/shipping from the NCIX ebay store
