replacing 6850 crossfire with hd 7870xt?
My xfx 6850s have worked well in the past.
Unfortunately after only 2.5 years of constant use the fans are starting to die.
The noise in one fan is so loud I had to remove it out of the PC since the squeaking could be heard from a floor below and above my room.
I'm supposed to have a lifetime warranty with XFX, so i'm going to try what I can to get the replaced, either way I plan on selling them if they are fixed.
Canada Computers | Video Cards | Sapphire (11199-20-20G) AMD Radeon HD 7870 XT With Boost, 2GB GDDR5 | 925 MHz Clock, 6000 MHz Memory | PCI-Express 3.0, Dual-Link DVI, Dual Mini DisplayPort, HDMI
Planning on getting this card, hoping that the performance will be at least as good as the crossfire 6850s, willing to sacrifice some power to not have to use crossfire anymore anyways. And the price seems good, especially after the instant rebate.
Any thoughts? Any better cards i could try get in a similar price range?
Xfired 6850s are a little less than x2 6870s FC2, BFBC2, AvP and Crysis 2 have the x2 6870 to compare.
The 7870 LE is a hair close to a 7950.
I have the 6870s xfired and the problem of replacing them with a single card is I'd have to go to the top of AMD/ Nvidias cards to even come close to FPS I've got now, big $$$s.
Ps, SEv2, BF3, DI,FC3 work well with xfire as well as some other games, for me the payoffs of xfire out ways the odd game that runs horrible in xfire like Black ops 1 for example.
I have 2 AMD 7770 in crossfire. It's OK for now. I was thinking of getting a 7870XT too but I am waiting to get a new PC when Haswell is released. Maybe a true Tahiti like a 7950 when prices go down to $250. I sometimes play games in Window mode and Crossfire doesn't work in a Window so I am going back to a single card...
