Hey guys i've been thinking about upgrading from my current 570 SLI setup to a single GTX 680 and then potentially add in a second one towards the end of summer. My question is essentially is this worthwhile? I have the 2.5GB models of the 570s and haven't been able to find any concrete information on how they perform in comparison to a 680 benchmark wise. Also, I'm a little hesitant as the 7xx series could drop tomorrow but they seem to be taking forever to get here (weren't they rumored for Q1 2013?). Basically just wanted some advice on what to do.
with a properly supported game, The sli 570's will beat the 680, but do it with alot more heat and power consumption. selling the 570's to get a 680 will give you a drop in overal performance for games that support SLI. I would wait for 7xx to come out personally. It just isnt worth the money to drop your 2 good cards right now. Then if you end up with 2x 680's you are in the same situation.
antunica I did exactly what you are contemplating. I was running two 570 in SLI and chose to move to one 680. I made my choice for few reasons:
1. I wanted a larger frame buffer. 1.28GB was not cutting it at 2560X1440 anymore.
2. Less heat
3. Consistent performance
If I could do it all again I would prolly move from 570 SLI to Titan but at the time Titan was not on the radar.
I believe I read the 7xx Series will be a "crippled" Titan (a few less shaders but more than 6xx Series, perhaps 2000 Core Shaders?) but of the course the price will be the same as all new release GPU's in this category. $600 give or take, but Maxwell in a years time will be??? epic????
