My System Specs

Default Asus 8600 gt

Hi ,so I recently bought an Asus 8600 gt silent for 10$ on kijiji (for use in an older machine ),and when I got home I took a closer look at it ,and its not the card on the asus website.Any ideas why they don't match up?

https://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/...ILENTHTDP256M/ -Asus page for the card.

And this is the card I got.Looks sort of the same, but there are a fair few differences

Its also only one slot,as opposed to the one on the asus website. And there are parts that are not on the pcb on this one that are on the picture on the asus website as well.

Your's looks the same as this:

I'm guessing the former owner just changed the back I/O cover, possibly to fit into a smaller case or something.

Does the card work fine? If so, I don't see any reason to be concerned. Grab drivers from the NVIDIA site.

I emailed the previous owner about it,and he said that he indeed just changed the plate and took of the shroud. So thanks for the help regarding that. One more question though, how much of a lifespan can I expect from a fan-less card like this?

I don't see why it wouldn't last. ASUS designed it as such and would of hopefully tested it fully.

I would assume you still have some airflow in your case though to remove the hot air surrounding the GPU. If there's absolutely no airflow in your case, then I suspect the card might die sooner than later.

Just monitor the temps when you're using it. Should be good to go anything under ~95 - 100c I wouldn't expect it to die anytime soon.

They are different cards, the one on the site uses cheaper electrolytic capacitors while the one in the OP's photo uses solid aluminum caps. It's a possible second revision of the card, since the card was released around the "bad cap plague" era.

I can confirm that is definitely a newer revision in terms of the capacitors

I have one of those cards, I pulled it from a recycle bin and had to change all the capacitors. Mine is still working fine though I don't use it much, mostly just to plug in a monitor when I build a test machine here and there, but I've had it for a couple years now
