Default AMD Radeon HD 7790 Review Comment Thread

AMD hasn't been able to muster up a competitor against NVIDIA's $149 GTX 650 Ti for the better part of 6 months but that's about to change with the introduction of the HD 7790. By utilizing the brand new Bonaire core, AMD has been able to hit a near-perfect blend of performance and efficiency. Budget-conscious gamers should sit up and take notice.

This just makes me feel that much better for leaving team green after only using nvidia up until the 600/7000 series. Runs quicker then a 650 Ti, and cooler then a 650Ti while being overclocked, what more has to be said really.

edit, meant 650 Ti.

I think you mean 650ti.

Yeah, Nvidia screwed up there. The performance from a 650ti to a 660 is huge with nothing to fill that gap. Still, for a decent experience, getting anything less than a 7850 or a 660 is not really worth it.

To tell you the truth frame times are pretty good... Just two specific games weighing it down otherwise it would be ahead of the 650 ti in that respect as well.

They've run out of labels in that area. What the hell will they call it? GTX650Ti-960?

My guess would be GTX655 or GTS660.

Hopefully retail pricing on these are lower, the 7850 1GB drops down to the $150-160 mark often enough that it would be a better card at that price point.

HD 7850 1GB is being discontinued.

The NVIDIA card will be called the GTX 650 Ti Boost.
