550ti Good for 3 Monitors?

Hey guys,

I just bought a new computer and failed to check if the video card supports 3 monitors. It's a 550ti 1GB. It only has two slots in the back though. Could I run a third off the mobo?

Thanks.

2 monitors only.

If you are not gaming and only want it from a productivity standpoint, this is a really good option.
Galaxy makes a lot of really good MDT Graphics cards:

Galaxy MDT GeForce GT 610 810MHZ 1GB 500MHZ DDR3 Dual DVI PCI-E DX11 Video Card

That can run 4 I think.

Unfortunately, my computer is for business and gaming. :D

What is the next best thing up from the 550ti? I have a 670 in my other computer which, supports 3 monitors, but I don't really want to spend the moula.

Next step up from the 550 Ti with triple display support would be the GTX 650, but I'd highly recommend the GTX 650 Ti if you're going to be doing any gaming since it's a hefty performance gain for not much more. Also, as luck would have it, we have a pretty awesome deal going on it at NCIX right now. At $124.99 it's just $5 more than the non-Ti version:

Just depends on how much you're willing to spend for your gaming capability. The GT 640 is not a step up from the 550 Ti in terms of performance (it's about 90% the speed), but it is an astonishingly capable card considering how little it costs. Considering ours is only a $69 card, I was amazed when I tested that Batman: AC was actually very playable in triple display 3840x720 with medium presets.

That being said, if you're looking for a card in this price range I would highly recommend Galaxy's GC edition GT 640 for reasons beyond just my being the Galaxy rep. The overclock is nice, but the main selling point on the GT 640 GC is the cooling, which is near undetectably silent. R&D measured 29dB under max load and my own sound meter couldn't pick it up at all.

Which motherboard do you have?

I ask because yes you can run two monitors off of the card and a third off of the motherboard. I know this because one of the guys I work with is doing that right now and he has the 550ti and for the rest of the system it is a 2600K on a Asus P8Z68-V Pro board. I should say that you will not get great gaming performance from that card but it still does ok for games that are not powerhouses.

GT 640 definitely supports 3; 4 on some cards. I've played in Surround on one to know first hand. Only other thing to keep in mind is one of the three ports is VGA on our card, so at least one of your monitors will need to have a VGA input if you go that route. If not, the GTX 650 GC and GTX 650 Ti GC both have 3 digital outputs.

Or as others have said you can use the port on your board for the third display with your current card if you so desire.
