Default Replace GTX680 with 7970?

I am considering selling my Galaxy Geforce GTX680 and moving to a ATi 7970 as I play all my games at 2560x1440 resolution, would I notice an improvement in both IQ and FPS at his resolution?

Probably not much. Which version of 680 do you have?

Depends on games etc, 7970 overall is slightly more powerfull or slightly weaker depending of course on game, settings used, clock speeds etc. if it was a +/- scale out of 100, 7970 IMHO would be a 95 680 a 93(unless I wanted to be real biased as I hate Nvidia as a whole with a passion)

Either way, they are both super capable, very fast/powerfull cards, the 680 has an edge in power use, 7970 has an edge with higher resolutions(powering multi-monitor)

Do you find yourself running out of frame buffer? If so, I would say that would be the only reason to switch. That, and you wanting to switch. As far as the gpu chip itself, I'd say they're pretty evenly matched when it comes to framerates... Certainly not worth the loss you'd get by selling your gpu and buying a brand new 7970.

I would argue that the only way a switch would make sense would be if you were to find a used 7970 and trade it for your GTX680. That would be your best bet, and surely not that hard to find someone willing to make a trade.

I haven't tried a 680 yet but I have no complaints at all with my 7970!

You should have no issues at all though swapping (straight up trade 1for1) with someone though!

Thanks for the feedback guys, it seems that the message is clear, keep the GTX 680 as there is a minor difference between the two at best.

This seems like a good deal... You should be able to get at least that much, if not more for your 680.

And a few free games to boot.
If you can do it without spending anything or better make on the deal, by the free games or buying a second hand 7970 then go for it.
