Quick advice before NCIX sells out They have the powercolor 7870 with the so called Tahiti chip...whatever that really means vs the Gigabyte 7870 running at 1100 non Tahiti ( blue board ) - is there really a difference...I have my doubts so like to here from some pro's. Tahiti is the core for the 7850 and 7870. I would personally go for the gigabyte one |
Yes. Its Tahiti LE vs vanilla overclocked pitcairn. PowerColor PCS+ Radeon HD 7870 (Tahiti LE) 2GB Myst Video Card Review :: TweakTown If you overclock the powercolor you probably can get comparable results to a 7950/7970. |
I have that gigabyte videocard and never had a single issue. Since the deal with the game I figured I'd buy another one and have two...nice game package :). Would love to watercool them ..more for looks but these gpu coolers are friggin expensive ( understandably ) and would if the prices would drop to say $70 each. Or sell my Gigabyte and just pick up the 7970 since they are on sale to. Tough call |
Here is a review: LINK NOT WORKING Its a cut down HD7970/7950 (IMO should be called a HD7930), and not a faster version of the 7870. Supposed to be faster than a 7870 ghz edition and gtx 660Ti (according to the review), and close to the performance of a 7950. Seems like a lot of card for the money IMO...and it has free games. EDIT: It won't let me post the link you can google 7870 myst review and find what I found. |
Very interested in the Tahiti card myself. Depending on what type of resolution i get from NZXT for my psu issue I may be picking one of these up myself. As far as bang for buck goes this card is definitely lots of BANG! Curious though, if one was to crossfire this card would they require another tahiti or would any 7870 do? |
So did your last card... |
This card is a real boom on the market.Take the gigabyte |

I ordered it. Had one already so would be nice to have the crossfire going. Not even going to water cool them, don't see the point but was thinking about it only for the looks :) |

But yes. My 6870 did have plenty of bang. At least 2 bangs when the caps exploded but otherwise was a damn good card. 60fps easy with BF3 with all things ultra and AA disabled. |
