Default x8 and not x16

I have a PCI-E 2.0 slot on my gigabyte motherboard, It says it right on the box. I also have a BFG 8800GT which needs that slot. It is suppose to run at x16 and right now Its running at x8. How I found this was going into NVIDIA settings and clicking system information. Its saying right now that.

IRQ:16
BUS: PCI Express x8

My cousin has the same card and his says x16 in that area.

CAN ANYONE HELP AM I GETTING SCREWED?

Maybe if you listed a model # rather than "gigabyte motherboard" somebody might have an idea of what's going on.

My System Specs

Default

GIGABYTE - Product - Motherboard - Overview - GA-M61SME-S2 (rev. 2.x)

Quote:
PCI Express Interface
Revolutionary PCI Express interface provides scalable bandwidth for multi-purpose usage. PCI-E x16 interface (The GA-M61SME-S2 supports up to PCI Express x8 mode, please refer to the VGA cards support list) doubles the bandwidth of graphics interface of previous generation thus delivering the utmost gaming experience. PCI-E x1interface provides twice the bandwidth of PCI interface up to 250MB/s for new generation I/O peripheral devices.
Didn't think the 6100 chipset supported 16X PCIe, and it's also not a PCIe 2.0

It supports X16 cards (I had an asrock board which "supported" X16 cards but would only do it at X4 speeds).

As far as PCIe 2.0 goes... nothing you wrote there says anything about PCIe 2.0.

The 2.0 you see is the motherboard revision #.

Exactly, 16x card support, 8x real speed.

well I wouldn't worry to much about it...
Tomshardware.com did a comparison of PCIE bus width and gaming performance.

so your video card is probably not utilising the full bandwidth of PCIE16 let alone worries of PCIE16v2
