Actually I agree (never thought about it). My x3 710 is comparable to a C2D and even paired with my GTX 460 I run into CPU limitations in game (so a 570 definitely would). It ranges from time to time CPU limitations in some games to always in others (games like Civ V and SCII late game). I say hang on to the 5850 and save the cash for a CPU/MOB/Ram upgrade.

A 5850 is comparable to a 460 at best, it would be an ok upgrade as he has a c2d, best way to check it, is lend him the card for a day

I have a couple Radeon HD 5870's and I have a couple GTX-560ti's.
The 5870's don't come near what the 560ti's can do.

He's decided to leave it be for a while, at least until he upgrades his platform. Long story short, a friend of his is giving him the motherboard, CPU and 5850 for free. I went out with him yesterday and bought the rest of the goods that he needs. So, while it may be an older platform, the price was unbeatable!

I may or may not put that GTX570 in the BST now...
