Anandtech comparison shows the 5970 as faster except for Skyrim and Batman (probably poorly optimized for crossfire).

Yup, think of the 5970 as only slightly less powerful than a 6990.

On the other hand, your 7950 will run at 90% of the performance, but with half the heat and noise...

Yeah this is the key, as well as less issues in regards to Crossfire and drivers.

Yeah the 5970 is still a really powerful card, as you've probably noticed by now. I don't know specifics or numbers, but I'll bet you the 7950 uses like half the power that the 5970 uses at full load. Okay maybe not half...

For heat and noise i didn't care it was watercooled lol

Juat thought i would gain performance going to 3gb on a single card rathet than 1gb per core

Totally depends on the res/game/settings your running.
Basically if you not using all your memory there is 0 point in upgrading, which I guess you knew but makes it all the more important to check these things..

far cry 3 at ultra 2x and hbao, bf3 maxed out all at 1920x1080

bf3 i gain 10fps but far cry i lost 20ish

i heard threw the bush far cry 3 needs minimum 2gb of memory for dx11 i think so the 5970 was only 1gb per core and its was scaling during the game, now its not scaling but running at 30-40 fps instead of 50-60

EDIT :

Oc'ed the 7950 to 925core 1500memory and those gave me the curreny score

3dmark 11 9007 with oc'ed 7950 and my oc'ed 5970 was 94xx

Wait, you spent hundreds of dollars without even looking at a few benchmarks/reviews?
