My System Specs

Default Using a GT640 2gb for Physx with a 6970 2gb CUII as your main card.

So my dual Opteron C32 4280 system majorly gets bogged down when I'm gaming and I noticed on a few games and benchmarks it looks like my Physx just blow chunks. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel I have a spare 640 2gb MSI card and I wanted to know, will this be complicated to setup or will it work as a good physx card or should I look to a 650 or 650ti ?

Thanks I will get to testing in the next weekend or so to see if it helps :)
Does anyone still use physx cards on here and has anyone seen any improvement?

Unless you're using an nvidia card as your primary display driver, you don't have physx, nor can it be run on a separate card in that situation.

I use a 570 as a Physx card to my 680.

Actually, it's more for folding, but since it's in the rig, I might as well make the most use of it.

The opterons may be bottlenecking the gpu in some situations. I tried gaming on a 6128 and a 7970 and it seemed to be slower compared to an i5.

I have heard this to be true and false read lots of reviews that included both mixed cards but I will find out myself first hand soon

My backup rig next week becomes my main, it right now runs a 920,12gb 1600 ram,MSI 660 TF OC next week the backup rig moves to 980X, 24GB 1600 and the 660 will see some more overclocking.

But the dual opteron rig will become my Tera TV gamer and school computer, so if I can get the 640 to work as physx it will be a awesome rig if not I will file an expense report for a new Firepro Card or Quadro card and just be happy with that and move my 6970 to my A10 rig and put that on the TV haha.

Does it help in gaming? I have a spare 580 , and currently using 670, would it be beneficial if I put the 580 back in for physx?

I ran an 8800GT with my HD 6970 for PhysX. It's easy as pie to setup, Google it and download the modded Nvidia drivers and then it is a matter of changing the names of a few files in your game and it works. I would expect a GT 640 to do OK, but something like a GTS450 or GTX 460 would be much better.

As for using that 580 for Physx, waste of time. The 670 can already handle everything just fine, it may even slow down things with the 580 because of the crosstalk. I wouldn't bother.
