unlocked hd 6950 2gb upgrading to what? or nah?
i try to figure out if its worth to upgrade my hd6950 with unlocked mods cfx and waterblock...
i know its not fun to research or search the forum... i want to know the real experience... not number... nobody answers if its actually greatly experience improving over old hd6950
i look at this http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum...xy-msi-23.html
it looks like OCed gtx 660 ti is almost close equal to stock hd 7970 and 100cdn cheaper than hd 7970's 400cdn before taxes...
i also look at old hd7850 (or whatever)... only 20% or 5 fps improved over stock hd6950... is that 5 fps big deal? so if i upgrade to gtx 660 ti and oc it.. then probably 40% or 10 fps improved over hd 6950... it looks not bad... really benefit? maybe...
i really want to know if its great gaming experience improved over hd6950 from gtx660ti...
i hope to keep playing sc2, halo2 and wot at 1080res and ultra high mode... thats all i care about...
ps. someday i want to play mass effect, fallout 3 lv or whatever if i have time... damn school and job stuff...
Getting a 660 Ti would be an upgrade, but personally the gains wouldn't be enough for me to upgrade. I'd try and catch a 670 on sale or something.
i dont get why you said gtx 670 is better...
gtx 670 is pretty same preformance as hd 7970 except at ultra high, maximum resolution and overclocking... hd 7970 is advantage at due to 3gb...
gtx 670 is at 340ish
gtx 680 is at 450ish
not worth as gtx 660ti...
If you aren't having an issue with your 6950, then keep it. It should still be fast enough. I don't see a reason to upgrade, but if you feel the need I would say gtx 670 or hd 7970.
Have you guys not seen the new reviews of the 7970 after the driver updates? It's keeping stride with a 680 now, and beating it in some cases.
Look at HWC forum for a review of 7970 matrix for example. It has a "ghz edition" for a comprable to the matrix, and even the non matrix beats the 680 in skyrim and bf3.
You are pointing out data from a review with the old drivers which SUCKED SO BAD. Before they new drivers my trifire 6950 rig would not run msaa on bf3, it would crash it 100%. In dual mode it would run the msaa fine. Now bf3 runs the msaa in trifire without microstutter at CRAZY FRAMERATES! Sorry to rant, but the new ATI drivers are a MEGA improvement.
The 7970 is essentially 2 modded 6950's running in a perfectly working dual mode crossfire rig.
When I added a second modded 6950 to my rig, there was a huge difference, but not in all games. Skyrim looked the same, sc2 played at the same framerate but with more anti ailiasing.
In fact, the only game that really changed drastically was bf3. It drank deep from the new GPU.
SO in summary speaking from someone with an analagous experience to upgrading from a oc and unlocked 6950 to a 670, I do not think you should upgrade. You're not playing bf3 and need a rig to play bf4, or analagous bleeding edge games. You can download "RadeonPro" to actually see how much games utilize your GPU core. Many games don't ever come close to maxing out a single GPU.
The new 8000 series and the new 7xx series will be upon us soon, and I would save off from upgrading until them. Especially if you have liquid cooling as you can OC a 6950 pretty high.
If you feel the bug, upgrade your LCS!
Its more of personal preference at this point... For me I will never go ati again because I despise that CCC and how hard it is to get rid of and how buggy it is
I say nah, I got a 6950 as well and I expect it to run maximum settings on all the games for the next 2-3 years.
masterorderus thats what i heard!
okay then i will not upgrade my video cards... and who/what is lcs?
yes ati ccc sucks but its all you can only change... ;\
edit: i forget to add... not all game you can maximum it to ultra... it will cause tear/shutter over my monitor rarely... i dont know if it was my video card or u2711...
