Default AMD Details Next Gen. Radeon HD 8000M GPUs

The HD 8800, HD 8700, HD 8600 and HD 8500 may not be the flagship parts some were hoping for but they use AMD's refreshed GCN architecture.

Hmm it's an interesting move to go mobile first with the next-gen architecture (I guess it's not new - we did see it with Trinity). Hopefully that means better performance/watt for all platforms, rather than the Faildozer approach on the CPUs when they went servers first and tried to scale down.

I was actually hoping they'd start with the APUs because Intel has very close to a monopoly on Win8 touch-enabled convertibles and all-in-one PCs right now.

Makes sense mobile sales probably dwarf desktop sales especially in the mid range.

Not in AMD's case....

But that's exactly why they're trying to get in "first" with next gen parts. The more design wins they have now, the better they will be in the long term. :)

Which is at the end of the day exactly what they need. The more market share then can grab, the more viability they have in the market I am interested in. And lets face it, AMD Needs a design win right now.
